CAGSE Teacher Training Workshops
Please contact us to discuss training workshops which could help your organisation. This page gives examples of what we offer. Taught by Dr. Richard Gilder III: Foundations of Language – Engaging with Structure, Grammar and Meaning How can you give students an understanding of their own language—its structure, grammar, and derivations—without making them memorize the lot or putting them to sleep? This workshop uses Latin to reveal the underlying patterns of English in particular and of language in general. CAGSE's founder, Dr. Richard Gilder III, works with teachers in an introductory three-hour session to show them his approach and how to work with their students. This workshop is recommended for teachers of all subject areas. More on Language – Engaging with Structure, Grammar and Meaning II and III These workshops help teachers continue to develop the approach to language begun in the Foundations course. They are tailored to the needs of particular faculty and specific school populations. Taught by Dr. Annette Kramer: Foundations of Critical Thinking – Integrating Analysis Into the Curriculum What exactly is critical thinking and how does it work? Perhaps most important, how can teachers integrate the processes and skills into their subject areas without sacrificing content required by local or government authorities? This workshop begins by defining the elements of critical thinking as they apply across disciplines. The course then breaks down the elements of critical thinking in academic and real-life examples and asks teachers to practice with work from their own subject areas. This workshop is recommended for teachers of all subject areas. Please contact CAGSE for samples to bring to the workshop. Critical Thinking – Developing Subject-Specific Techniques II and III This workshop follows on the heels of the Foundations course and helps teachers develop in more depth approaches to integrating critical thinking into their own subject areas. This course is tailored to the needs of a particular faculty and specific school populations. Taught by Geraldine Walkington: How to Set Up a Learning Laboratory The Learning Lab program has proved to engage both disaffected and Gifted and Talented students in the relationship between the arts and business. The program is constructed to include young people from Y6-Y11 and may be incorporated into GCSE coursework. A recent OFSTED inspection in Art commented on the ways in which the Learning Laboratory significantly raised pupil achievement. This workshop explores how to develop college, business and artist networks to create and support a successful Learning Lab. Creativity in Art at KS2-3 TransitionThis Workshop includes an analysis of skills and knowledge at KS2, the requirements at KS3 and how to prepare pupils for the transition. The two areas of focus are 1) practical tips for teachers in both primary and secondary sectors in drawing and analysis of artwork from different art disciplines and genres; and 2) the creation of meaningful sketchbooks that link recording and research. |
